Spending 2 delicious and relaxing nights in the Adelaide Hills

Have you got a weekend to yourself up your sleeve, or maybe a couple of days off mid week? Well I’ve got the perfect itinerary for you.

Jump in the car and head for the hills- there’s so much more to the Adelaide Hills then just wine (however the wine is bloody good!).

This itinerary covers everything from accommodation to food and wine and everything in between. It’s easily modified and more can be crammed in if you want to take it at a faster pace (or remove some if you are all about relaxing).

Here’s some of the best ways to spend 2 nights in the hills…

Check in to your accommodation at the Tiny Home in Bridgewater

I wrote a blog about this beautiful house a few years ago when we visited after a friends wedding. This small but well appointed home is the perfect place to stay as a couple or with a friend and it feels like you’re at a retreat. Be greeted with luxurious linens, floor to ceiling windows, local brekky provisions, an open air (hot) bath overlooking the paddocks and a huge deck perfect for yoga by day and stargazing by night. There’s even resident cows you can feed. So country and so beautiful. It’s booked out often for good reason.

Explore the German town of Hahndorf

Once you’ve checked into your accomodation, jump in the car and head just across the road to the nearby town of Hahndorf. There you can spend the afternoon wandering the streets checking out all of the shops, boutiques, homewares stores and food producers on show.

I recommend stopping into Menz’s Fruc Choc shop– their original Fruchocs and honeycomb are the best.

If you love cheese then pop into Udder Delights– you can have a little sample, order a cheese board or buy a few packets to take home for later.

If you’re after a late lunch then stop into the German Arms Hotel– their giant hotdogs are so bloody delicious and can easily be shared by two people. While you’re there drink a beer as big as your head.

Once a market stall now a beautiful restaurant, Comida, is the place to visit for long lunches and late dinners. Visit them all things Spanish fare.

If it’s the right season then visit Beerenberg– a strawberry farm where you can pick your own berries, sample all of their jams and honeys and purchase direct from the grower. Popular with tourists and locals alike.

Wear a elasticated waist band and head to Lost in a Forest for dinner

If you love pizza then you need to head to Lost in a Forest in Uradila. A converted church turned pizza bar, LIAF serves up woodfire pizzas with unique toppings like broccoli, chilli oil and a variety of meats. Don’t let the random toppings freak you out, these are some of the best pizzas ive ever had. Their wine and beer list is pretty good aswell, so may be worthwhile getting a UBER.

Night cap at the Uraidla Hotel

If you are keen to kick on for the night, or might just want a vino to finish off the night, then wander across the road to the pub. This pub has undergone renovations in recent years and it’s the place to hang out and sink a pint.

Breakfast at Patch Kitchen and Garden

The Hills is full of great café options and Patch is easily one of my favourites. Laid back, plenty of room for the kids and excellent food. Vegans, Vegos, those who love meat- they have you covered. On each occasion that we have visited the food has been top notch so I feel like you cant go wrong with anything on the menu here!

Dabble in a gin tasting at Applewood Distillery

Even if you’re not a gin lover I swear this place will have you converted. One of the first cold stores in the hills has been converted into this distillery and tasting room. Snag a seat by the window, order one of their tasting flights or indulge in a cocktail. If you’re there at the right time you might even be able to have a behind the scenes tour of the distillery- super interesting and lots of fun!

Lunch at Barrister Block Wines

Barrister Block are one of my favourite wineries in the Adelaide Hills. It’s the perfect place for families and kids, offering a huge grass area, farm animals and food options for the little ones. We love their sparkling wine and their pizzas/tasting platters. We’ve been countless times and on each occasion we have absolutely loved it.

Wine your way around the Hills

There are so many wineries in the Adelaide Hills region that it is honestly so hard to choose where to go. Here’s a few of my favourites:

Ashton Hills Vineyard

The Lane Vineyard

Golding Wines

Artwine Estate

Lobethal Wines

Bird In Hand Winery

Indulge in Wine, beer and all things delicious at Lot 100

If you skipped lunch because you weren’t feeling hungry enough, a visit here will get the tummy rumbling. Lot 100 is one of the newest additions to the Adelaide Hills and is just a really cool place to hang out. Beers by Mismatch Brewing, spirits from Adelaide Hills Distillery, ciders by The Hills Cider Company- just to name a few. Everyone who visits raves on about the food and the brilliant outdoor area, making it the perfect place to kill a few hours in the afternoon, or better yet, the whole day.

Drink coffee in the indoor jungle that is Emma and Ivy

Emma and Ivy is by far my favourite cafe in the Adelaide Hills. Big call, but when you see it you’ll know why. Brilliant coffee, great food and the most delicious sweet treats. Their newish digs is filled from top to toe with indoor plants (some available for purchase, but don’t ask about this ivy, you’ll be kindly told no) as well as fresh blooms and plenty of bespoke products to purchase. The staff here are just lovely and it’s very spacious, making it the perfect place for groups, prams or just yourself.

What’s your favourite thing about the Adelaide Hills? I’d love to know- drop me a comment below!
