Wanting a winery that serves a mouth watering wood oven pizza, has a fab wine list, boutique beer for the boys (and girls), local produce and a art gallery with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Oh and did I forget that it has a incredible view and is surrounded by a lush green forest.
Enough talking about this hidden beauty and more naming- this little slice of heaven is called Anderson Hill.
Popular with bike riders after completing nearby trails, you can expect to see some lycra. But don’t let that put you off, because the beautiful artwork by local artists that don the walls of the cellar door will attract your eyes away from all that tight clothing.
We were welcomed into the cellar door where we tried their small, but delicious wine list. Even better, the wines are really affordable and the quality is top notch. I’m not a huge fan of the bubbly stuff, but I loved their vintage sparkling chardonnay and got myself a glass of it quick smart. Everyone else decided to have the home brewed beer which went down a treat.
When one orders beer they must also order pizza- that’s a written rule right? This pizza is not your stodgy Dominos stuff, think thin bases, simple and fresh ingredients all cooked in the outdoor wood oven. They even offer pizzas for kids which sounded just as tempting as the adult versions. We snapped up a feta, pumpkin and red onion and a garlic prawn pizza and took a seat out the front on the wine barrel chairs looking out to the view. The pizzas were delicious and packed full of flavour. There was plenty of feta on the pumpkin pizza and the other half loved the garlic prawns which were huge and plentiful.
If you don’t want to sit right out front there is plenty of other seating available, with a large grassed area to the side of the cellar door packed with chairs, umbrellas and plenty of room for the little tackers to run around. If the weather is average then you can sit inside the cellar door and the forever changing art works on the walls.
This beautiful cellar door also offers plenty of space for functions and parties. If you’re not feeling up to a glass of wine but still want to visit then there is plenty of coffee and delicious sweets to go around.
You can find Anderson Hill cellar door at 407 Croft Road, Lenswood.
