Saturdays are best spent in the vale. As are sundays. And any day ending in ‘day’.
The first Saturday of may this year was spent exploring new places, eating delicious food and then visiting this cracker of a winery- Angove Family Winemakers.
Angove wines is a 5th generation family owned winery based in McLaren Vale. It’s quite the classy cellar door, boasting walls made of old Adelaide Bluestone and beautiful wooden benches. The view from the wining and dining area will take your breath away- huge glass doors that open to a deck overlooking vineyards and green rolling hills as far as the eye can see.
As soon as you walk into this cellar door you feel very cosy and very much at home. I’m not sure if its the very friendly staff, the artwork that dons the walls or the warmth of the heater that does this, or maybe its just all of them combined. Either way, they’re ticking boxes.
Angove is also boasts a state of the art tasting facility, where their Enomatic wine serving cabinets keep each wine at the perfect condition and temperature, so when they are poured they are perfect. Now I need to get one of these babies at my house.
The other half dabbled in the long list of reds while I opted for a fair trade organic coffee. I sat out on the decking in the sunshine, on a stool with a wine barrel as a table and soaked it all in. Soon the boy returned with a bottle of red and he drank, and we laughed, while we were in awe of the scenery.
And as if this winery doesn’t have it all already, it also offers facilities for functions, private and corporate events and even a board room with a cracker of a view (I know I wouldn’t get any work done in their and i’d be to busy day dreaming). You can also get stuck into the cheese and regional platters from 12-3pm or if your after some sweets that also have those to.
You can find Angove Family Winemakers at 117 Chalk Hill Road, Mclaren Vale.
