Early morning coffees-to-go, brekky and lunch options, plenty of locally sourced fare and a all South Australian wine list.
Say hello to Wright Street’s newest occupant- Arbour Kitchen.
Arbour Kitchen is a new restaurant in the centre of the city, with views of Whitmore Square and just a stone throw away from Gouger Street.
It’s interior is gorgeous- let’s be honest, the crew at Studio-Gram can do no wrong. This light and airy space is filled with loads of blush pinks, terracotta, light timbers and slate sourced from Willunga. The huge glass windows look straight out into the square, taking in the trees and greenery. The plants don’t stop there, with huge pots of Ivy suspended from the roof on white rails. There’s bar height seating if you want to perch yourself, soft grey and navy bench seats if you plan on cosying in and outdoor seating for when the sun comes out to play.
The menu is has your typical brunch options but with a twist- you’ll find everything from their version of a big breakfast- the ‘Arbour Farmers Market’, Egg White Omelette’s, Buckwheat Pancakes and even a Blue Swimmer Crab Sandwich.
If you’re vego inclined, then you are going to LOVE this place. Almost half of their menu is plant based so you are in for a treat. There’s no boring options, with Scrambled Curried Tofu, Quinoa Rissoles and even a Vegan Cheeseboard from Milkless Cheeses being just a few of the choices. I’m very much a meat eater, but even this part of the menu had me swaying towards the plant life.
Expect to see lots of local love on their menu- this restaurant uses predominantly South Australian produce. They use goats cheese from Willunga and yoghurt and smoked trout from the Adelaide Hills. Got to love eateries that are getting behind our amazing SA producers.
Choosing what to eat off the menu was a difficult one, but as soon as I saw the words ‘Reuben Sandwich’, I knew I just had to have it (so what if it was 8.30am?!). What a great choice it was. Layers upon layers of soft corned beef, ample sauerkraut, pockets of melted cheese and two house made pickles on the side. PERFECTION. It was the right balance of pickley and one of the best Ruebens I’ve ever had. My breakfast date ordered the Arbour Farmers Market which she gave a big thumbs up to- plenty of spicy beans, perfectly poached eggs, loads of sauteed kale and Hahndorf bacon. YUM.
As always coffee was on the cards. I’m currently off of caffeine, but can confirm their decaf tastes just like the real thing. They use Bean Revolution beans, so you know you’re in for a good time. We also tried their chai latte, which had the right amount of spice and wasn’t overly sweet, which is just how I like it.
If you come at lunch time (or maybe you want to kick things off a little earlier), then they have you covered for alcoholic bevvies with their cocktail, wine and beer menu. Give your day a kick start with a Bloody Mary using 23rd Street Vodka or a sneaky mimosa.
Their all South Australian wine list boasts labels like Shobbrook, The Good Doctor and Hahndorf Hills, sourcing their drops from as far as McLaren Vale, to the Barossa and Adelaide Hills. If you’re looking for something a little different then try their ‘Orange Wines’ from both the Fleurieu Peninsula and Eden Valley- they’re really bloody good. Beer lovers haven’t been left behind either, with Prancing Pony, Pirate Life, Vale Brewing and Pikes all landing a feature on the drinks menu.
There’s so much to love about this new gem in the city. Everything has been thought of and executed to perfection- from the food, the brilliant service and all SA lineup. We loved it all and are already planning our next trip back.
You can find Arbour Kitchen at 152 Wright Street, Adelaide.
