50s style diner, Palm Springs vibes, Italo-American fare.
Say a big buongiorno to Chicco Palms.
Located on busy Henley Beach Road in Brooklyn Park, Chicco Palms is the new go to eatery for all things cocktails, pizza and good vibes. You know you’re in for a treat as soon as you land at the bright yellow door with the word ‘pizzeria’ buzzing away in neon blue.
The interior is airy and bright- think a fun Californian feel, plenty of yellows, blues and whites, and more neon signage. There’s plenty of room for big groups and families, and kids are most welcome. The staff are upbeat, the smell makes your mouth water and the general vibe makes you want to get yourself a sneaky aperitivo and relax. So we did.
To kick things off we hopped straight on the drinks list. They offer a range of refreshments here, from local SA and international wines by the glass or bottle, as well as stubbys and aperitivo’s like negoni and aperol spritz. Our eyes were taken straight to the cocktails- we quickly snaffled a Mojito Americano. A blend of gin, mint, sugar, lime and OJ- it was super refreshing and a nice twist on the standard mojito.
For entrees we debated between options of antipasto, carpaccio beef with capers grana padano and chicken cotoletta, but eventually settled on the Crochette Potato- how can you say no to deep fried potatoey goodness.
They were super crunchy on the outside, and light as a feather and soft on the inside. They were full of flavour, and were topped with a sprinkling of cheese.
The main event (aka pizza) was delicious and more giant than expected. We opted for the Margherita and Prosciutto, but also loved the look of the Funghi and Garlic Bianca (just another good excuse to return). The bases of these bad boys were thin and the right amount of cripsy, and were loaded with just the right amount of toppings. The prosciutto was plentiful and the sauce was to die for. The margherita was our winner, with sprinklings of basil, cheese + a pearler of a tomato sauce.
If pizza isn’t your thing, and I promise I won’t judge, they also serve Spaghetti and Meatballs, Sunday roast lamb, eye fillet and Calabrese Mac and Cheese. You really cant go wrong with anything on this menu.
You can find Chicco Palms at 437 Henley Beach Rd, Brooklyn Park.
