Grandma Oranges Chocolate Chip Cookies
Just a little warning. This recipe is not for the health conscious.
My late grandma is American and was a excellent baker. I only have memories of her from when I was a young girl, but the memories I do have are all about food. She was lovely and I miss her dearly. Before she passed away she wrote a cookbook, complete with old pictures, for myself and all her other grandchildren (yes amazing I know). I found this recipe in there and have used it several times and it’s delicious.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup of white sugar
- 2/3 cup softened margarine
- 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/2 cup of chopped nuts (I use walnuts)
- 1 1/2 cups of plain flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet of milk chocolate chips (200-250 gram size will do)
Method
- Pre heat oven to 180 degrees celcius.
- Line baking trays with baking paper.
- Mix sugars, margarine, egg and vanilla in a large bowl with a wooden spoon until mixture is creamy and has no lumps.
- Stir in remaining ingredients.
- Drop by rounded teaspoons (slightly bigger if desired) about 4-5 cms apart on prepared trays.
- Cook for 8-10 minutes or until slightly golden. be sure to check them if you want to take them out of the oven a tad earlier to have them chewy.
- Once out of the oven allow to cool slightly then transfer to a cooling rack.
