10 places on the Fleurieu Peninsula to take your Mum this Mothers Day

If your mum’s anything like my mum, she will say that all she wants is your company for Mother’s Day. I however think my mum’s fibbing, and that she secretly wants wine and a nice lunch (don’t we all) with the addition of my company for the day, but she’s just too nice to say it.

So the best way to spoil mum in my eyes- combine the three and take her out for lunch or morning tea. We have so many beautiful places to dine on the Fleurieu, so why not go all out and treat that extra special woman in your life to some incredible food, wine and even beer.

Here’s my picks for places to treat mum this Mothers Day:

The Salopian Inn

The Salopian is one of my favourite places to go for lunch in McLaren Vale. Boasting a huge gin list, incredible wine cellar and some of the best dumpings and pork buns you’ll ever taste in your life- there’s really no reason not to go here. If you love beautiful food using the best local, seasonal produce, then this place is for you.

The Kitchen Door at Pennys Hill

Chef Tom Boden is in the charge of the kitchen at The Kitchen Door and reports are that the food is divine. Get yourself a few glasses of Pennys Hill vino and their 3 course menu and you’ve got yourself a match made in heaven. Click here to see their mothers day menu- I’m tempted to book this one in for my mum- you got me at gnocchi and chocolate tarts!

Leconfield Wines

We had our engagement party at this winery and my mum absolutely loved it. They sell huge regional produce platters filled with all the good stuff. To wash it down they have a large wine list, filled with everything from bubbles to a GSM (the GSM is one of the best around). Sit out under the patio, take in the view and cheers the arvo away.

Wildfire Organic Tea

If your mum loves tea, good vibes and sweets (that you’ll never know are good for you), then make sure you book in for Wildfire’s Morning Tea in their Apothecary and tea shed in Port Elliot. You’ll be treated to a plant based grazing table filled with cupcakes, fruits and other goodies while you’re sipping on Jane’s hand blended organic teas. Kids and dogs are welcome and tickets are under $20.00. Be sure to book in quick- no doubt this event will sell out!

Alpha Box & Dice

If your mum is partial to a platter and a glass of Shiraz, then whisk her down the hill to this winery. AB&D make a mean platter, have a great wine list and the outlook from the cellar doors garden is glorious. Nothing wrong with a liquid lunch with a side of soft cheese I say!

Pizzateca

Looking for more of a casual affair, but still with damn good food and wine? Pizzateca is the answer. Start the day with arrosticini, fill your bellies with plenty of pizza and end with Tiramisu and Lemoncello. Perfection. Just be sure to wear stretchy pants or a flowy dress.

Pipi at Middleton

Is your mum more of a brunch lover than a lunch lover? Then Pipi is calling your name. This café is cute and quaint and makes a meal stack of pancakes. Their brunch menu is filled with all the favourites and uses predominantly local produce, so you know you’re in for something very tasty! I love this café and can’t wait to take my mum here.

The Currant Shed

This restaurant is by far one of my all-time favourite places to eat on the Fleurieu. Impeccable service, food that’s an absolute delight to eat and the prettiest of views. Every time I visit here I fall in love all over again. Feed me options, individual dishes or just a few glasses of wine. Take your pick- but if it was me I’d spend as long as I possibly could here.

Tealicious Cakes

This charming little cafe is new to Willunga and i’m so excited it’s here! Tealicious Cakes sell the most delicious sweets- think all flavours of cupcakes (Mint, Mars Bar, Oreo), homemade biscuits and Scones. To go along with your treats they have a large range of handcrafted Fleurieu tea and locally roasted coffee. This Mothers Day you can enjoy their cupcakes in store, or go all out and try their signature High Tea at $45.00 each, including ribbon sandwiches, scones, petite desserts and cups of tea (of course!). Be sure to book this one in advance!

Goodiesons Brewery

Does your mum favour a frothie over a vino? Then Goodiesons is for you. This microbrewery has some mean beers on offer, with the chance to work your way through the list with paddles or options to buy by the glass. They encourage BYO food here, so make up a picnic (I recommend going to Romeos Foodland McLaren Vale for all the essentials) and bring it along with you. There’s plenty of outdoor seating and big shady trees, making it the perfect place to spend the afternoon.
