Gather and Graze

If you’re into aesthetically pleasing interiors, sandwiches with the best fillings, brilliant coffee and shared brunch plates then listen up. Because I have the place for you.

Gather and Graze is run by Bre Parkes, grazing table queen. Look her up on insta- her tables are to die for. Her new bricks and mortar cafe is the perfect addition to King William Road, and is just a stone throw away from the CBD.

Ever since she announced this venture I have been itching to visit, and I’m so glad I did (and can’t stop going), because it is divine. A dreamy colour palette with peaches, green moss and navy are dotted around, with concrete look bench tops and leather detailing. A series of photographs titled ‘Vacanza’ hang on the walls, taken by Byron Bay photographer Marguerite Moloney, a friend of Bre’s. Bre even got on the tools herself, designing the fitout and making the very comfy bench seats.

There’s picnic baskets suspended from the ceiling, loads of indoor plants, glass cabinets filled with treats and plenty of space to perch your bum both in and outside the cafe.

If you find yourself to be a bit of a foodie then you will love this regularly changing menu. On weekdays it’s divided into 3 parts: plates, subs and kids. On ‘plates’ expect avo on toast with persian feta, maple chai granola and falafel and smashed avo bowl.

The ‘Subs’ is full of sandwiches- SA Cold Cuts, Pulled Chicken Waldorf and Buttered Pork Belly Bahn Mi with all the trimmings like pate. YUM.

If you’re after something small and sweet, the top of the cake cabinet is where you need to head. Scones, cakes, they have you covered. At one point I also got pretty tempted to order off the kids menu- ham and cheese toasties and fabulous fairybread sound so good.

As much as I wanted to relive my childhood (fairybread, always), both my friend and I opted for the Bircher on our first visit. Topped with creamy coconut yoghurt, seasonal fruit, compote and the most delicious caramelized banana I’ve ever had. Sadly it’s no longer on the menu, because it’s 40 degrees (fair call), but it’s big sister Chai Seed Pud looks equally as good.

We washed our birchers down with iced filtered coffee and Iced Milos. Yeah, you heard right. MILO. It even comes with a ‘add icecream’ option, and as always I was easily convinced. Well worth the calories, and the perfect milo to milk ratio. The iced filters are so good that i’ve had 3 more since our last visit.

If you’re not a fan of Milo, then their endless lists of coffee from 1645 Roasters, smoothies, iced drinks and teas by Elmstock will keep even the fussiest of drinkers happy. And if you’re wanting to kick off your weekend a tad early, you can cheers to their new liqour licence- hello Mismatch Beers and wines from our favourites at Hersey, AB&D, Vinteloper and Hey Diddle Wines.

With such a good vibe and excellent food, this little gem on King Willy has become a new regular when I visit this side of town.

You can find Gather and Graze at 23 King William Road, Unley.
