Kid friendly places, spaces & foodie spots on the Fleurieu Peninsula
Since having a baby, I have realised how important it is to find somewhere to eat/stay/play that is child friendly. Like VERY important.
Do they have high chairs handy? Change tables? Will parking my pram be a massive inconvenience and will staff squirm at the sight of it?
One thing I love about the Fleurieu is that this region is abundant on kid friendly places and spaces. So many places are so welcoming and even cater and have things on hand to entertain the kiddies.
Here are just a few of my favourites..
Feeling hungry and thirsty? Here’s some places to fill your belly-
Maxwells Grocery, Aldinga
Large undercover patio, high chairs for kids, healthy options and friendly staff. A short drive to the beach so perfect for dine in or takeaway to enjoy on the sand.
The Golden Fleece Cafe, Willunga
A beautiful little cafe on the main drag of Willunga. Large outdoor area, room for prams and plenty to keep the kids entertained (colouring in, toys for kids). Great kids menu and beautiful and accommodating staff.
Down The Rabbit Hole, McLaren Vale
A large lawn area for the kids (it can get busy, so mid week is best), sandpit, swings and little cubby house. Perfect place for parents and kids to unwind. And great wine for mum and dad!
Wirra Wirra Wines, McLaren Vale
Massive lawn area for the kids to roam free and healthy ice blocks on hand for the kids. Plenty of room in their undercover outdoor space for prams and change tables on hand.
MANNA, McLaren Vale
Cafe with loads of seating, high chairs and room for prams. Undercover and food for kids. Very friendly staff.
Woodstock Wines, McLaren Flat
Kangaroos, outdoor play area, lawn area for the kids and just a beautiful space and vibe. You’ll struggle to get the kids to leave here.
Gemtree Wines, McLaren Vale
Organic wines for mum and dad, a play ground for the kids and a big grassed area to run around on (or the hill to roll down).
Mullygrub, McLaren Vale
Delicious menu for the little ones (hello pancakes!), high chairs and friendly staff.
Homegrain Bakery- McLaren Flat and Aldinga
The best baked goods getting around. Treats for big and small people. Aldinga bakery is just a short drive to the beach and Mclaren Flat is next door to a lovely nature inspired playground, so you don’t have to eat your bounty in the car.
Agathas, Port Noarlunga
Delicious kids menu, high chairs, room for prams and only a short walk away from the iconic Port Noarlunga Wooden playground and beach/jetty.
Becks Bakery, Port Noarlunga
Baked treats, sandwiches, great baby chinos and a large indoor and outdoor area perfect for the kids.
Flower Cellar Door, Whites Valley
Dog friendly, large lawn area with seating, awesome green house filled with seating, kid friendly food options and a cake cabinet filled to the brim. Hardest part of your visit will be choosing what you eat.
Willunga Farmers Market- Saturdays in the town square and by the football oval
This market is inclusive, spread out and very family friendly. Teach your kids where your food comes from, indulge in healthy ice creams on a stick or homemade biscuits and gelato and just soak in the atmosphere.
Kid friendly spaces/things to do-
Willunga Playground, Aldinga Road, Willunga
A two part playground, massive grass area with plenty of room to run around and explore. Undercover BBQ facilities and park benches. A skate park, BMX dirt track and rose garden are also adjoined. If you’re peckish the main street with cafes is a short 5 minute walk, or indulge at Tealicious– a cupcake/high tea cafe that does the BEST cupcakes.
Port Willunga Beach
A beautiful and quiet beach, plenty of room to move even on busy days. The Star of Greece Kiosk sells ice creams, fish and chips and coffees (essential!) so you can bring them to enjoy on the beach. Relatively safe swimming, however not patrolled.
Port Noarlunga Playground
One of the most well known playgrounds in the south of Adelaide for good reason. Absolutely huge, so much room to run around and for the kids to burn off energy. Loads of grassed area for picnics and BBQ facilities.
Maslins Beach and playground
Another great playground on the Fleurieu. A big playground with bigger grassed area, with toilet facilities and beach access.
The Cockle train
Fun for all ages. Taking in the beautiful sights of the coast and Fleurieu Peninsula, plus what kid doesn’t love a train?
Wilfred Taylor Reserve Playground and Nature Reserve
This play ground is giant and is next level. Areas of the playground cater for every age group, with undercover picnic tables dotted around so you can bring your lunch and snacks. Keep an eye out for the mobile coffee van and Mr Whippy who frequent the carpark- the sherbet ice cream is my go to!
Ingalalla Falls
A beautiful little waterfall hidden away just a short drive out of Normanville. If the babes don’t walk it’s best to pop them in a carrier as it may be a little too offload for the pram. A very easy, short walk that takes you past bushland and forest, with running streams and benches if you want to bring a picnic lunch.
Normanville Beach
One of my favourite beaches. Perfect for kids and a stretch of sand as far as the eye can see. The Surf Club and Kiosk are the perfect place to grab a feed, coffee or big kids beverage. Theres also a caravan park a stone throw away, making it the perfect place for a mini vacay. Such a family friendly beach- when you visit you’ll know why we love it. Nearby Carrickalinga beach is also divine if you fancy a 5 minute drive.
Putt Putt at Mclaren Vale Natives
Who doesn’t love a round of putt putt. Bring your best game face and get ready to get competitive. Reasonably priced, perfect for most ages and loads of fun.
The Shiraz Trail
If you love getting outdoors and are looking for a free activity, pull on your sneakers or bring the bikes and head to the Shiraz Trail. The trail is relatively flat and takes in some beautiful scenery along the way- think vineyards, gumtrees, even resident donkeys. Stop off at one of the many cafes/wineries along the way for a refuel.
