The Festival Of Wirra Wirra
Spring is quick approaching, and what better way to celebrate the warmer weather then with a festival.
And the best kinds of festivals- ones with endless wine tastings.
One of my favourite wineries in McLaren Vale, Wirra Wirra Wines, is hosting a festival for their 125th and 50th anniversaries, dubbed ‘The Festival of Wirra’, this weekend on Saturday the 31st of August.
So what can you expect? Well there will be wine, and plenty of it. They have some of South Australia’s best wine makers on board at this event, offering tastings from wineries such as Ashton Hills, Ministry of Clouds, BK Wines, Sampson Tall and Mr Riggs (just to name a few). You’ll be able to taste until your hearts content, all dished up to you in a Riedel wine glass you’ll be gifted at the gate.
If you’re not a wine-y kind of person or deso driver for the day, you can also expect all the usual beverages on offer from their list in Harrys Deli (their onsite café that stocks a range of drinks, food and brilliant coffee by Fleurieu locals, Dawn Patrol Coffee Roasters).
At all great festivals are a great range of food, and this festival is no different. One of my all-time favourite food trucks, Sooki La La, will be on site serving their South East Asian Street Food (I’m praying their dumplings are on the menu) as well as Italian delights from Fiesty Filomena.
There will be plenty of entertainment on offer to keep you and the little ones occupied. Dreamy vocals will be on show by Dusty Lee Trio, as well as the iconic Wirra Wirra Catapult being in full swing throughout the day. There will be giant lawn games as well (not just for the kids), as well as plenty of the garden space open for the little ones to roam free.
Kids under 18 are free and the event is very family friendly, making it the perfect day out for everyone.
Tickets are limited, with a small amount available on the day at the door- just look for the white picket fence.
I’ll see you at the tasting bench!
