Eating your way down the Main Street of Victor Harbor
Victor Harbor is a seaside town around 85kms from Adelaide. It’s a beautiful drive towards the coast, with scenic views along the way and plenty to do to and see in the town itself. The town is known for its whales, plenty of shops and of course Granite Island!
One thing that I’ve discovered recently is the foodie scene on the Victor Harbor Main Street. Whether you’re a sucker for a good coffee, a vegan looking for alternative options or someone who just loves a feed, the Main Street has you covered.
The other week I went wandering down the street with a girlfriend and found plenty of options for coffee/brekky/lunch. Of course we wanted to finish our day with something sweet so I’ve got you covered for that as well.
Here’s how it went down:
Delicia
You may have heard of Delicia before, or even seen their cafes pop up all over Adelaide. We love this chain for their smoothie bowls and coffee, and this store is just as good as their counterparts. The interior oozes good vibes, from the super friendly staff to the epic interior plants, and cosy seating made out of recycled timber. Locals were popping in for their takeaway coffees- when locals visit it’s a sign of a good brew. We snuck in a Original bowl and ‘The Victor’ smoothie bowl (because when in Victor, order the Victor smoothie bowl) and both were delicious. There’s also plenty of gluten free and vegan options here if you are needing something more niche.
Coffee at Wood Rustic Roastery
Once we were done at Delicia we strolled down to Wood. This hole in the wall coffee shop has a small and simple interior and a few tables for alfresco drinking out the front. Their coffee was lovely and they even make a great decaf (Mahalia beans from the Limestone Coast definitely helps!)
Ocean Street Bakehouse
In true Jess fashion the day had to incorporate some form of sweets. The Ocean Street Bakehouse had us covered, with the most coolest donuts getting around- WHALE DONUTS. As the whale season has just begun we bought their whale donut special- the Malteaser Whale- and it was so tasty. A delicious donut filled with cream and topped with chocolate icing and Malteasers, it was the perfect treat to accompany us to look for (and fail at finding) whales. If you’re more of a savoury tooth, I hear their Pasties and Pies are a winner. They seemed to be flying out the store.
Victor Harbor Ice Creamery
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Especially when it’s from this ice creamery! A hit with both the big and little kids, this shop is busy regardless of the weather. It was freezing on our visit but we couldn’t resist a scoop of the Golden North Rainbow ice cream. If you are looking for something more substantive they also offer milkshakes, waffles and smaller food options- so you’ll have everyone covered.
Lunch at Belicious
Tucked away on the corner of the Main Street next to Subway, this cafe has all you could ever want for breakfast of brunch. Belgian waffles are their specialty, as well as super light crepes and delicious desserts.
On our visit we opted a serve of waffles with apple pie filling and homemade cream and a plate of crepes with lemon and icing sugar. What can I say, we ROLLED out the door. I could have eaten the waffles 10 times over and the apple pie filling was divine. The crepes were so thin they were devoured in 30 seconds flat and there was barely a word exchanged over eating- sign of a good meal. If you are after something more savoury, then you’re also in luck. They have huge cooked breakfasts and toasties- I was eyeing off our neighbours bacon + eggs and they looked divine!
All Sweets and Treats
A visit to a country town isn’t complete with a obligatory stop in to the lolly shop. This one is filled with all the classics- hard boiled lollies, English delights, American imports and all the Aussie favourites. I limited myself to one packet (otherwise I’d buy out the store) and couldn’t go past the Fruit Salad Rock. Some how they managed to last the car ride home!
